Using AI Assistants on Zoom to create captions, take notes, et cet. poses a security risk
WARNING: Recently we’ve seen attorneys ask reporters about using AI captions on Zoom. We want to urge court reporters to warn attorneys that no one can promise the security of information that is processed by Zoom AI or other third-party AI assistants.
While Zoom has changed its Terms of Service so that Zoom meetings cannot be used for training its AI without consent (1), not all third-party platforms have this policy. Many colleges have blacklisted certain AI captioning software, including Harvard that prohibits any AI meeting assistants (2), due to security concerns.
Further related to meeting security on Zoom, Zoom does not offer end-to-end transcription by default. Zoom offers AES encryption, meaning the service provider has access to the data. (3)
The best way to limit security issues is to limit the sharing of data to outside sources.
