In its January letter to its donors, Project steno revealed some hopeful statistics regarding an increase of students enrolling in schools.
Project Steno, a non-profit organization who offers free introductory stenography classes called "Basic Training," has recently released its statistics for 2024 in a letter to donors in January of 2025. Throughout the last year, Project Steno enrolled over 1,500 students in their free intro courses last year, shipped out 800 steno machines nationwide, and has awarded $370,000 in tuition assistance and merit awards.
The most encouraging statistic I found was regarding the efficacy rate of Basic Training:
One of the most impressive metrics that underscores the success of our program is that 40% of students who complete Basic Training go on to enroll in stenographic reporting programs. Our Executive Director is currently undertaking a survey of stenographic schools nationwide. In just 17 schools interviewed to date, educators reported a staggering 880 new enrollees—a direct outcome of our targeted efforts.
Project Steno has 135 volunteers in 2024 that made these statistics possible as well as hundreds of donors. If you are interested in donating to help support the court reporting and captioning profession, check out ProjectSteno.org
And if you know anyone interested in reporting, send them to ProjectSteno.org to get signed up for their free introductory classes!
